Role:                     Regional Lead – Trent

Reports To:         Education Lead

Location:             Region & remote working

Key Relationships:   AfPP HQ (Education Lead, Clinical Patient Safety Lead, Events Team, Marketing Team), Region assigned Trustee, Regional Team Members, Specialist Interest Groups SIGs

Role summary:  The Regional Lead plays a pivotal role in supporting the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) by leading a regional team to promote education & networking. The Regional Lead ensures the delivery of high-quality regional activities, including study days, while fostering collaborative and inclusive team environments. The Regional Lead facilitates education, enhances networking opportunities, and ensures a continuing regional AfPP presence.

Term of Appointment:   Initial term of up to three years, with potential to continue to support the team and new Regional Lead in role.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Maintain Region email account and correspond with AfPP HQ and members appropriately.
  • Lead the regional team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Create a supportive, respectful, and inclusive team environment.
  • Address concerns within the team or escalate them to the AfPP Education Lead when necessary.
  • Mentor and support team members for future leadership roles.
  • Maintain an active succession plan to ensure continuance of regional activity.

 

Educational activities

  • Plan, organise, and host at least one regional study day and one webinar annually.
  • Work with AfPP HQ (Education, Events, and Patient Safety Leads) on event planning and delivery.
  • Source speakers and suggest sponsors for regional events.
  • Adhere to marketing and planning timelines.

 

Networking and Engagement

  • Build and maintain active local networks through meetings, events, and regular communication.
  • Engage with regional theatre departments to promote activities and recruit new members.
  • Disseminate and promote relevant information about AfPP and regional activities.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Education Lead ensuring regional activity is aligned with AfPP’s strategic direction.

 

Commitment

  • A time commitment of around 6- 8 hours per month, varying throughout the periods of event activity.
  • Attendance at AfPP Annual National Conference in person and Annual General Meeting online.
  • Advocate for AfPP’s mission, values, and professional standards.
  • Act as the primary representative of AfPP for the region.
  • Advocate for best practices in perioperative care, championing patient safety and practitioner wellbeing.

 

Personal Specification

Essential Desirable
Current AfPP Membership

 

Previous experience as a Regional Team member
Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

Understanding of AfPP’s mission and values
Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships

 

Familiarity with social media platforms for professional engagement and promotion.

 

Commitment to promoting education and professional development Experience in delivering presentations.
Commitment to supporting AfPP’s Strategic direction

 

Ability to inspire, motivate, and engage a diverse group of professionals.

 

Previous experience in a leadership or coordination role.
