The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) is delighted to welcome Brandon Wasmuth as the new AfPP Link Member and Volunteer Support for the Students and Early Careers Specialist Interest Group. Brandon, a first-year Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) student at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, brings a wealth of diverse experiences and an infectious enthusiasm for learning and networking.

Originally from South Africa, Brandon moved to the UK with his family at the age of two. His career journey has been varied, having previously worked as a restaurant manager, a DPD driver, and an ambulance service driver. Initially, he intended to train as a paramedic but ultimately found his true calling in the operating theatre and decided to pursue a career as an ODP. With a goal of attending medical school in the future, Brandon is eager to embrace every opportunity to expand his knowledge and skill set.

Speaking about his appointment, Brandon said: “I am thrilled to be a part of AfPP in this capacity. The community, the learning opportunities, and the chance to connect with other professionals have already been invaluable. I attended an AfPP Roadshow in Leeds and absolutely loved every second of it. I’m looking forward to supporting fellow students and early career practitioners, helping them navigate their journeys just as I am navigating mine.”

Jennifer Maher, AfPP Education Lead, expressed her enthusiasm for Brandon’s involvement: “We are delighted to have Brandon on board in this vital role. His energy, passion for learning, and desire to support others make him an incredible addition to our team. His varied background and drive to succeed will be an inspiration to many students and early career practitioners.”

Brandon’s new role will see him working closely with AfPP to support students and those in the early stages of their careers, offering guidance, networking opportunities, and professional development resources.
