Long-standing member of The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) Jane Standring is delighted to have been awarded funding from the Association towards her Masters in Simulation-Based Education at Staffordshire University.
“I am grateful for the support from the AfPP over the years, but this award has made an incredible difference to me and been a huge boost,” said Jane, who has been awarded a £750 bursary from AfPP’s Education and Research Fellowship Fund.
Available to all AfPP members, the fund is to help advance the study of perioperative practice, promote excellence and innovation in perioperative practice, and extend knowledge and skills to meet changing needs.
Jane, who worked as an Operating Department Practitioner for 20 years, and is now a Clinical Skills and Simulation Technician at University Centre Somerset (UCS), said she wants to be the best educator she can be, and this is the reason she is undertaking the Masters. Jane will be completing the three-year part-time MSc while working full-time.
“The AfPP bursary is so appreciated, as it is very expensive to do a Masters, and I am totally self-funding, so the extra support means a great deal to me,” said Jane, who has been a member of AfPP since 2004..
She added: “The MSc in Simulation-Based Education will be a transformative journey for both my professional development and the enhancement of perioperative training at UCS.
“By integrating the latest simulation methodologies, we can create a learning environment that is engaging, effective, and aligned with the highest standards of patient care. This investment in education will yield dividends in the form of skilled, confident practitioners ready to meet the demands of the ever-evolving healthcare landscape. My vision is to cultivate a department that exemplifies excellence, collaboration, and innovation, benefiting our students, patients, and the broader community.”
Awards and bursaries are available through AfPP. More details about AfPP awards and bursaries can be found on the AfPP website.
