Education and Research Bursary
A bursary of up to £1,000 to spend on education
A bursary of up to £1,000 is available to all AfPP paying members to assist with fees, research, study days, training courses and conferences.
Purpose of Bursary
- To advance the study of perioperative practice
- To promote excellence in perioperative practice
- To promote innovation in perioperative practice
- To extend knowledge and skills in order to meet changing needs in practice
Criteria for Application
- Applicants must be an AfPP paying member with at least 12 months membership.
- If the applicant cancels their AfPP membership within 12 months of the date of receiving their award, they will be liable to refund the monies in full.
- An approach for funding and study leave should have already been made to the members employing authority and evidence of such provided at the time of application.
- Applications must be received before an activity takes place, AfPP is unable to grant the bursary in retrospect. For a bursary to be considered it must take place more than two weeks after the application deadline. It is therefore requested that application forms be submitted with sufficient time to allow the bursary to be considered and processed.
- A report (electronic format only) must be submitted by the members awarded funding on completion of their project for possible inclusion in the AfPP magazine, JPP, e-bulletin & social media channels.
- If an original article or dissertation is produced from the course/research undertaken it must be made available within three months of completion of the course/research for possible inclusion in the AfPP journal or IPP magazine. AfPP also reserve the right to use the material on the AfPP website and member resource area.
- AfPP must be acknowledged every time material resulting from the course or research is published or presented.
- Submissions must be the original work of the member receiving the bursary.

Terms & Conditions
- Funding must be claimed within 12 months of the bursary being awarded.
- Funding will only be awarded to cover 12 months of any course at one time.
- AfPP must be informed if the funding awarded is no longer required.
- Funds will not be released until confirmation of the members enrolment on the course. Bursaries awarded for study days, training courses and academic courses will be paid directly to the provided not the member.
- Funding is not transferable.
- Each AfPP member can sibmit only one application for an award or bursary within the year from April 2025 to March 2026. This ensures that the opportunity if accessible to as many members as possible and prevents any single member from submitting multiple applications in a single year.
- Once a member receives an award, they are not longer eligible to apply for further awards in the future. This helps ensure fair distribution and gives other members a chance to be recognised for their achievements.
- Current AfPP board members, due to potential conflicts of interest, are excluded from applying for awards or bursaries. This ensures that the award process remains unbiased and transparent.
- The amount for the Education & Research bursary is based on scoring criteria. This helps to determine the level of funding given to the successful applicant.
